In the show, Rimmer is there right away, and Lister finds Cat pretty much instantly. In the novelization... it's a little different.
Lister always enjoyed being alone, which came as a surprise to people. It was like because he enjoyed spending time with others, he must want to be around them all the time.
That was stupid. Even if you liked Zero G football, you couldn't do it all the time. You'd collapse.
Flat on his back in the observation dome, he reached out for another beer. How many days now? Maybe ten. Maybe twenty.
The ship was so quiet. Holly left him alone most of the time.
Slowly, Lister put his hands over his ears. He could still hear the silence.
