Charles didn’t understand. He had always been Charles; nobody had tried to take that away from him with a tattoo.
They had to. In order to make themselves seem superior, in order to make himself seem like an other who was not worthy of the rights and dignity of being a human, they had to deny the ways in which he was a human. That he bled, that he loved and suffered, that he shared the same DNA.
That he could thirst for revenge.
