But he’d rather stand on his own two feet. Even as close to the ground as they were.

You know, I can't remember if

You know, I can't remember if that's mentioned in canon or not; that Niall would be eligeble to be shelled. But I expect it is...! Not to go off on a tangent, but I love how they don't make the system or society out to be utopian or perfect, or dystopian, for that matter. It's flawed; it's real. Anyway - this is beautifully done.
