Curse of Strahd is a 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons gothic horror module based on Dracula. Here, Strahd is sitting his ass down to write his memoirs. It's the best shot at therapy he ever had, tbh.
One moment of absent-mindedness was all it took. Of his father not seeing.
Wood wailed under the weight, snapping like a neck being broken. There was nothing to be done. The toy wagon fell apart.
Strahd sat on his heels, stunned, haplessly reaching out and touching there one, there another shattered part trying to put everything back together, knowing the attempt was doomed from the get-go.

The memory comes back as the pen ripples the surface of the ink. His past is as unable to be put right as the broken plaything.
He learnt his lesson; he does not try.
The acceptance is not a good thing in this case, ladies and gentlemen and esteemed ones. This is basically the beginning of Strahd's villain origin story >:) But that is a story for another drabble...
