Except nothing is the same now that Brother Jeremiah is gone. You're the one the priest calls into his chambers after dark. No one soothes you, or shields you from those hands, that mouth, the other parts ought not be seen. Now there are only tears, pain, hatred… Now you know why Jeremiah didn't want 'forever'.
