"What? What have you done to me?" Maddie felt disoriented, as if waking up from a dream that was too real.
The old lips smiled.
"Building a wall around a garden is not the best way to protect it," a voice echoed in the young woman's mind. "It will never be strong enough to push out the wind and yet passable enough to let you feel it on your cheeks."
"Others are doing it."
"Maybe others have palaces instead of gardens."
"But... how do I change that?"
"You don't. You can't. You work with it... or fail."
